Oldest World Map
Oldest World Map. Babylon is shown in the centre next to Assyria and Urartu (Armenia). Researchers also think that the mammoth tusk was used as a hunting map.
This was all surrounded by the ocean. The star-shaped map measures just five-by-three inches and shows the world. The city of Babylon itself figures as a large rectangle, bisected by another rectangle representing the Euphrates River.
Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza founded the national mint of Mexico by decree from the Spanish Crown, and it became the first mint in the Americas.
Composed in ancient Babylonia, it is the only Babylonian map that was drawn on an international space.
The reconstructed map depicts Babylon on the Euphrates River's banks, surrounded by a circular continent. The oldest known world map is the Babylonian Map of the World known as the Imago Mundi. The area is rich in artifacts, making it an archaeologist's dream.
