Visible in the Cascades, north to south: Diamond Creek Fire, Jolly Mountain Fire, Norse Peak Fire. It protects the portion of the Cascade Range north of Chinook Pass, south of Naches Pass, and east of Mount Rainier National Park. On clear days, Mount Adams, Mount Rainier, Mount Hood, Glacier Peak, and the Olympics are laid out on a perfectly photogenic horizon..

The trail gets a little more gradual as it continues to rise. Noble Knob, Raven Roost, Norse Peak, Goose Prairie. The fires burned in steep rocky terrain, with difficult access.
